Claptrap Rescue missionsedit

There are numerous broken Claptraps located throughout Pandora. They are easily found if the player is paying close enough attention, as they will say things such as "I'm leaking! I'm leaking!! There's oil everywhere!" Note that this becomes even more visible with the subtitles option turned on.
After talking to the Claptrap and accepting a mission to repair them, they can then be restored with a Repair Kit. Once repaired, the Claptrap will then reward the player with a Backpack SDU (Storage Deck Upgrade). Claptraps rescued on the second playthrough may not yield a Backpack SDU however. The first five in Borderlands have been known to have a chance of awarding them, while later Claptraps have not been seen to do so.
Some Claptraps will also lead you to weapon chests.
There are a total of ten broken Claptraps in the vanilla release of Borderlands and an additional Claptrap to be rescued in the Zombie Island of Dr. Ned (downloadable expansion). This article is meant to help those who cannot find all eleven.

During the second playthrough, the first five rescue missions (Safe House, The Lost Cave, New Haven, Tetanus Warren, Scrapyard) award either a Backpack SDU or a Grenade Mod. The closer to being full your current Backpack is, the more likely you are to recieve the Backpack SDU. The more slots you have, the less likely you will recieve the SDU (PC Confirmed). If you do not receive a Backpack SDU you can Ctrl + Alt + Delete and end the game, without saving or hitting a save station. Alternatively, simply close the game window in windowed mode (Alt + Enter to toggle windowed mode). Upon restarting Borderlands, head back to the Claptrap and hand the quest in for another chance at obtaining the SDU reward.
Alternatively you can exit the game just before handing in the quest then backup your save file. Next start the game again then hand in the quest. If you don't get the SDU, exit the game, restore the backup and hand the mission in again. Repeat until you get the Backpack SDU.
You cannot save via Menu -> Quit for about 30 seconds after loading a game, which you can use to your advantage in this case. (PC Confirmed) If the Claptrap is close to a New-U station, load your game, quickly run to it, and if you dont get the SDU, quit normally and load your game again. Make sure it says "You cannot save your progress at this time." before you quit, or it will save! .
You could also press ALT+ENTER to enter windowed mode, and in windowed mode you can simply 'X' out the game.

For console users, save when you get the tool box, then go to the Claptrap. If you get a grenade mod, unequip your shield and throw yourself a grenade, then when you are dying, push the button to respawn. When you are on vortex, push start and quit your game: a message will tell you that the game can't save at this point, so you can quit safely. Then repeat until the SDU is rewarded.
An option for Xbox 360 gamers is to press the "Xbox Guide" button, and then hit 'Y' to return to the Dashboard. This will quit the game without saving.
An option for PS3 gamers is to press the "PS" button and select "Quit Game"
