Deadly Bloom is a unique nova shield manufactured by Torgue.

In Borderlands 2, Deadly Bloom is obtained from the mission The Overlooked: This is Only a Test located in The Highlands.
In Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, Deadly Bloom is obtained randomly from any suitable loot source.

Special Weapon Effects[]

What do you mean...theoretically? – An explosive nova is triggered when shields and/or health are depleted.

Usage & Description[]

The Deadly Bloom is particularly ideal for Krieg with a melee build. The explosive damage type can do a number on shielded foes, allowing for easier burn damage. It's also an easy recovery from a failed Buzz Axe Rampage, as he's nearly always within range. Krieg also has bonuses to explosive damage, further augmenting its potential.

This shield is also useful for other classes to assist in getting second winds as the secondary explosion can potentially hit an out of reach enemy and finish them off. Using it to this effect is easiest when either focusing on close combat or to protect against common melee enemies that may ambush unexpectedly.

Notes[]

  • The Deadly Bloom will always trigger a nova whenever the character enters Fight For Your Life, and unlike with its on-depletion nova, the shield itself does not have to recharge.
  • While it is displayed in the inventory as a purple-rarity item, the Deadly Bloom is internally classified as a legendary and is part of the general legendary loot pool. Because of this, the shield has a small chance to be found from any suitable loot source, including from chests and other containers as well as from defeated enemies.
  • It is possible to obtain the Deadly Bloom as a shield reward from Tiny Tina's Lootsplosion Slot Machine.
  • The Grinder will also recognize it as a legendary item, allowing it to be randomly found by grinding three legendary shields.

Trivia[]

  • The Deadly Bloom was originally supposed to be a legendary item but an error in the coding gave it purple rarity instead.
  • The name and the red text are a reference to the movie The Last Starfighter, and the weapon of last resort loaded onto the Gunstar, called the Death Blossom.
