Hi guys, little bit of a dumb question I'm sure but I wanted to get the input of the informed masses to see if I'm doing the right thing. I know you can farm equipment doing New Haven chest runs, but I was just wondering what was the best method for farming up some of the best items in the game. I realise getting everything legit will take longer then just finding someone to dupe copies for me but I'd like to be able to find this stuff myself. Thanks in advance for the help!

In my opinion, the best way to farm eq is this way: port to New Haven, farm the 6 chests, check to see if the second weapon vendor is open. Then port to the Middle of Nowhere, and check to see if that weapon vendor has anything good. Then port to the Crimson Fastness and farm the six red chests in there. Port out to New Haven, quit out and then pop back in again. Lather, rinse and repeat. Pdboddy 13:46, December 31, 2009 (UTC)
I've noticed that the outlying chests on Salt Flats (1 to the SE, 2 to the NE) produced some nice gold and purple weapons, especially revolvers. Add those to your port list. MeMadeIt 23:23, December 31, 2009 (UTC)

Quickest way I've found is the 5 chests in New Haven (Excluding the One outside of Town) over and over and over until your face is blue.
{C}Also, you can wear a +2 Team Find Rare Items Mod (Catalyst=Siren|Scavenger=Hunter) but according to an experiment we did it doesn't effect the rarity of the guns from chests.--Doctorgray 00:28, January 1, 2010 (UTC)

To Get Rare Stuff In My Opinion I've Done This: Spawn In New Haven And Check The Vendors But DO NOT OPEN ANY Chests Yet. Then Go To Fyrestone Check The Vendors Including The One Near Shep Sanders, In The Arena, The One In That Guys Basement, The Med-Vendor Near Titans End And Then Go To "Lucky's Last Chance Watering Hole" And Check The Vendors There Including The One Near The Race Track And The One In The Haunted Mine. Then You Can Go To Other Places That Have Vendors If You Have Time Then When It Says "Shops Have New Inventory" Repeat This Process And Once Your Done Go Back To New Haven And Open The Treasure Chests In This Order: First Open The One The Claptrap Showed You Then The One On Roof Next To Marcus's Store Then Go To Scooter's Roof And Get That One (This Is The Chest That Almost Always Has A Orange Item) Then The Other One On Another Roof And Then The Hidden One (This One Usually Has 4 Coms/Shield But On Rare Occasions This One Has Orange Revolvers In It) Do This Process As Many Times As You Want {C}--User:720M37H3U5

Wouldn't it have been easier to say - visit all the machines from Fyrestone to New Haven and then open the New Haven chests? ;) MeMadeIt 10:04, January 1, 2010 (UTC)

--- {C}I personally like to get the 6 crates in New Haven first. Next I warp to rust commons west by Tannis, Grabbing the weapon crate by the bridge next to the house with the badass in it. After that I go through the 3 crates that are near Tannis herself and then I finish it off with the "developers crate" and that's were I quit to do it again. {C}--Vmk1 06:21, January 1, 2010 (UTC)

Okay, y'know what? Ignore everything here. Except this, I mean.

You asked a perfectly understandable question: "I know about how to farm from New Haven, but is there anything better?" {C}And what do you get for an answer? "F4RM N3W H4V3N, N00B!!1" Or something very much along those lines. {C}Well, it's my turn, and I'm going to tell you that, yes, there is something better than new Haven. In fact, it's a lot better in that it yields up better items level-wise, and that you don't have to exit and reload your game. What is it? Go to Old Haven or the Crimson Enclave, and start hunting Lance. They normally drop good-quality stuff, and lots of it. They also drop cash and give you EXP, something that new Haven doesn't do. It's also more fun. --User:TrollofReason

While fighting the Lance is certainly more fun, they tend to drop the same weapon over-n-over with only minor variations. If your goal is money and exp, great. If your hunting "some of the best items", forget it. Personnaly, I've never had a Lance drop something I wanted to keep. MeMadeIt 10:04, January 1, 2010 (UTC)
I have personally have found 2 orange weapons from the lance in the Salt Flats. Its the one on the side that you enter "Thor" and go directly out. It is usually a guy with a shield and has dropped me both orange weapons. I think they were both revolvers, but I'm not sure. R4nd0m0s1ty 01:15, January 9, 2010 (UTC)

The answer is - No, there really isn't anything better for finding "some of the best items" in quantity than New Haven. There are other places you could look, as noted above, but it requires more time-n-effort for far fewer quality finds. MeMadeIt 10:04, January 1, 2010 (UTC)

The best method I have come up with is this. Then Port to New Haven and grab those. Next Port to The Rust Commons West (The Underpass) and grab that hidden chest in the North-West corner of the map. After this chest Exit the game to the main menu and do it again. I average 2-3 Orange weapons, 7-8 Purples per trip. It also helps if you are a hunter and have the class mod that adds + # Team Find Rare Items. If you don't know where to find the last chest, check out youtube or find me on live gt "Jasper820". Really, just do what your comfy with. I just nab the chests in New Haven. I can get that done in no time flat, sell what I don't want. I have gotten a lot of nice weapons that I have kept. So if that is what your doing, just stick with it ;).SLudge 20:50, January 8, 2010 (UTC)

I feel it is pertinent to mention the "hidden" mission in old haven where you find the keys that the bandits left behind (http://borderlands.wikia.com/wiki/Bandit_Treasure:_Three_Corpses,_Three_Keys) although the chest it gives you is not farmable, it seems to always drop rare guns. I personally missed this mission until the end of the game. TheThor 00:29, January 9, 2010 (UTC)

I'm surprised noone mentioned the DLC vandors. Managed to get lucky with them, expecially Max Moxxi's vendor.Fseperent 01:07, January 9, 2010 (UTC) {C}________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

My Route: (New Heaven > Middle of Nowhere > The Underpass)

White Chest New Haven – On the roof right side >>> {C}Red Chest New Haven – On the roof when you jump round the corner (hidden chest) >>> {C}White Chest New Haven – In the little building near the blackboard (claptrap chest) >>> {C}Vendor Machine New Haven – Near Marcus' shop >>> {C}White Chest New Haven – On the roof above Marcus' shop >>> {C}Red Chest New Haven – On the roof above Scooter >>> {C}Vendor Machine Middle of Nowhere – Near the blackboard >>> {C}Vendor Machine The Underpass – Near the carport >>> {C}Red Chest The Underpass – At the bridge in the west >>> {C}Red Chest The Underpass – Behind the Tower in the northwest of the last chest>>> {C}Red Chest The Underpass – In the west of the last chest >>> {C}Red Chest The Underpass – In the far northwest under the Tower (developer Chest)

--> 3x White Chest, 6x Red Chest, 3x Vendor Machine.

You seem to have had a lot of help but i thought i would just throw in my idea.

i am having a lot of luck on my second play through in the dahl headlands. there are 3 chests {C}where you rescue the guy (lucky?) from jail. there is also a full set of machines. i know there {C}are more chests/shops in new haven but i would recomend these due to the sheer ammount of dark {C}orange chests i keep finding!

Turns out the BEST way to find guns is farming New Haven after the second playthrough. If you're not there yet, get there, and find some guns. New Haven + Second Playthrough + 30 mins = 50-200 lvl 48 items, usually around 150. Uncle Jimbo13 00:32, January 17, 2010 (UTC)

I've noticed that no one has updated their opinions post New Haven nerf patch. I thought I would throw in my two cents just based on this factor. I used to run NH chests over and over, but now that they are white chests, it's just not worth it. Recently I have started doing the following: Start in New Haven, do those, check vendor(s) (I also always check Moxxi vendor), Teleport to Tetanus Warrens, grab the 3 red chests there. I run a Siren with emphasis on Phasewalking. I get to all 3 chests without killing/having to deal with a single enemy. Makes for a fast, efficient and hassle free item run with pretty good results so far. Odyoda 19:50, October 9, 2011 (PST)

Take a Siren through Crimson Fastness and the Back Door. In that order, so that you don't have to fight Master McCloud. It's also really easy to grab 8 red chests (9 if you go for the "dev chest") in rust Commons West during PT2.5. Starting at the underpass, you can grab the chest above the gate, the one outside the Badass's hut near the bridge, hop the wall and grab the chests in Tannis's camp, come back and get the 2 chests in the spiderant colony area (and the dev chest if you prefer), then down into those two structures in the waterway. That's how I farm in vanilla Borderlands nowadays. Iplas 03:28, October 10, 2011 (UTC)

Vendor in Salt Flats always seem to have a Legenderay Weapon for sale. I suppose you could farm this.Jsachun 10:32, October 11, 2011 (UTC)
