Forums: Index > Help desk > Is Borderlands freeroam and can I freeroam after the last mission?

I am thinking about buying Borderlands for PC and I want to know if it is totally free roam. Also do I need to buy DLC to free roam after the story has ended? Also can I use my XBOX 360 controller with this game. If I can't I won't buy it.

It's freeroam to a certain extent, although there is a linear story, the game does not strictly end after the story ends, as you can complete sidequests, DLC and Raid bosses, but is not freeroam to the extent Skyrim or Fallout is.

Both Borderlands and Borderlands 2 is free roam in a linear aspect but if a missions objective is already complete, there may be limited point to traversing to different areas. There also might be minor areas (like say a room) that cannot be accessed after a mission is completed, I have never really checked out things in that light.

If you figure out what you want to do, you will (for the most part) be able to repeat areas. Some exceptions are a limited number of bosses or minor unique characters.

Borderlands has willow tree(external program) that can reset missions for repeated farming and Borderlands 2 has a in-game mission reset.

It is easy to make them into free roam by completing the main missions only, opening up all areas and farming or doing side missions whenever you want. Final signature 21:09, February 2, 2014 (UTC)
