I was just checking for updated drivers for my ATI 4870 and found something that may interest my fellow Borderlanders.
This is from the release notes for the newest catalyst 10.7 drivers.
While this may look good, further down in the release notes is some not so happy news, a Catch 22 if you will, for those like me who are running Windows 7.
Since Borderlands is built on Unreal Engine 3 (UE3), this may produce performance increases and possible problems on Windows 7 for other games running on UE3. See: Unreal Engine 3 Games for a list of UE3 Games.
So i guess if you have one of the Graphics cards listed above it may be a good idea to update and take advantage of this performance improvement, but if you are running Windows 7 like me, be wary, you may want to wait until they fix the issue. Also don't blame me if you do decide to update, it screws up borderlands and you lose all your Legendaries and Pearls (Oh Noes!). You could just make a backup of your saves before screwing around, just a suggestion :) Darknite323 09:49, August 23, 2010 (UTC)
THX! I have a 4850 and was considering upgrading to Win7. Maybe I'll just wait. -- 17:56, August 23, 2010 (UTC)
ATI tend to update their drivers about once a month, it looks like they're due for an update sometime this week, ill post an update when i know more. Darknite323 04:05, August 24, 2010 (UTC)
HA didn't i say they'd update this week, well the ATI 10.8 Catalyst drivers have been released and that problem introduced in 10.7 for borderlands on Win7 has been fixed.
So if you have one of the graphics cards listed earlier and are on Windows 7 make sure you update your drivers to version 10.8 not 10.7 to avoid problems with Borderlands. Darknite323 03:53, August 26, 2010 (UTC)
