Hello i've been doing Crawmerax for a while now when I stumbled apon a very amazing gun (to me that is). Its a Steel Thunder with a 2.7x Scope, 97.7 Accuracy, 2.7 Fire Rate and a 7 bullet magazine which is a normal repeating rifle but the odd thing to me was that it did over 1000 damage. Now I know this isn't the best one out there but it got me thinking, is there such thing as a Barret in Borderlands. Post your closest replica of the famed sniper here, but there has to be some requirements:

1. Has to be Black or Gray in color scheme

2. Has to have a Fire Rate above 2

3. Has to have a Magazine Size above 5

4. Has to have Accuracy above 95

5. Has to have a Scope of 2x or greater

6. Has to do more than 800 Damage

I hope to see some amazing guns on here. Enjoy.

I have a Steel Thunder as well:

Damage: 1047

Accuracy: 96.7

ROF: 2.4

Zoom: 2.4

This is without a doubt the highest rate of fire sniper I have seen with that damage (excluding the Orion). Works great for Mordecai with Tresspass maxed out.

Lucent2020 05:00, March 17, 2010 (UTC)

I have seen 2 purple snipers with a ROF over 3.2, both around 800-900 damage, accuracy 95% or so. I usually use my cyclops or skullmasher but if I see one again I will try to pick it up. Hellz Lips 05:26, March 17, 2010 (UTC)

Most likely Penetrators, no? Vaguely relatedly, why would high RoF make a rifle like a Barrett? Barrett's are more Jakobs-like: if it took more than one shot to mangle an engine block, you weren't using a Barrett IMonkoii 08:43, March 17, 2010 (UTC)

I have just recently started using these types of Snipers because my Bessie has a really slow fire rate (0.3 to be exact) and I thought that dealing 3 bullets worth of damage in the time it would take me to shoot 1 is probably gonna be stronger.

@Lucent2020 That Steel Thunder does more damage than mine does so good find. Keep posting your Snipers!

Ace Of Spades 05:37, March 17, 2010 (UTC)

Earlier on in the game I had a steel thunder that looked almost identical physically to the barrett, looked kind like what you would expect one to look like in the future or something, but it only did 600 dmg and i had to get rid of it. I do have a vicious penetrator with a 4.6 fire rate that does 1000+ damge though.-GAYNOR54

I haven't been able to find a penetrator that does more than 800, the one I have does 750 with a 5 Fire Rate

Ace Of Spades 17:13, March 17, 2010 (UTC)

reiter28: i have a penetrator (Sniper killer.... Quest que ces't?) with a bit more then 1000 damage and like 4. something fire rate, not that much recoil.

Some of the earlier snipers that I stubled upon, actually have the muzzle brake, just like the barrett, ill post a screen shot if I can find it again.

My maliwan Valcano has a muzzel brake on the end, which the barret requires; other wise it is a low powered grenade launcher. oddly, i have found a torgue valcano sniper... is that rare? i thought it was only maliwan?

If it is a Torgue x4 Fire Sniper 1) It will have a similar effect to the Maliwan Valcano. 2) If it is a Torgue Valcano with the "Pele demands a sacrifice!" than it is a modded weapon and it was given to you or you picked it up after someone dropped it.

Not sure of the exact stats, but my Steel Thunder has a damage of 1199, accuracy above 95, fire rate in the upper 2's, holds 5 shots, and has a high weapon zoom. -- Pwnage19 20:06, March 17, 2010 (UTC)

There's some real sweet Snipers on here. I've been doing Crawmerax a little bit more but haven't found a Thunder that beats mine yet, but oddly enough I've found another Penetrator with 900 damage and another Volcano that does 1100 but I'll keep looking. Happy Hunting

Ace Of Spades 21:47, March 17, 2010 (UTC)

If you are looking for the closest Sniper in the game to the real Barrett .50 It would probably be either the Atlas Cyclops (Huge Scope and can climb in to the High damage range) or the Jakobs Bessie (Massive damage, 500% Crit Damage and 100% accuracy when Looking through the Scope). Both have slow rates of fire and that is what the Barrett has. Take a look http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrett_.50

Agree. The Bessie = the Barret. Their barrels are identical. -- MeMadeIt 04:42, April 19, 2010 (UTC)

This Rifle is (according to Geneva Convention) an Anti-material rifle only. What this means for thsoe that have not been in the military is you are "NOT" allowed to shoot people with it. That doesn't cover their clothes and helmet though. I am the Keeper of Useless Knowledge ~ Proven Mayhem 20:19, March 18, 2010 (UTC)

[You don't shoot people with it because a) it's a waste of a round and b) the bullet has a tendency to come out the other side and carry on going, into civilian cars, hospitals, airports that kind of thing. So, one more time: Bad Modern Warfare, bad. Maybe the Borderlands 'Barrett' definition should include being able to take out a Lancer in one shot. IMonkoii 08:31, March 19, 2010 (UTC)]

Now this is an anti-material rifle: [1] . The high caliber sniper rifles like the barret are also used in long range shots, not only to stop an enemy car. (I understand long range 2Km++) M3rc3r's | talk 08:44, March 19, 2010 (UTC)

I got one of 1079 damg with 3.0 rof or one of 978 damg. with 3.4 rof but that PPZ570 steel thunder of lvl. 61 above (pic) i like can we trade some stuff on xbox 360 if you have? No signature found... 10:52, March 19, 2010 (UTC)

Anti-material/anti-personel Borderland's style is the Jakob's Bessie I acquired last night: 1677 damage, 500% critical hit damage and 100% accuracy when scoped in. Combined with a Sniper or Specter Mod it rips crits off of Crawmerax in two shots. It even has the Barrett's muzzle break. lol

I am the Keeper of Useless Knowledge ~ Proven Mayhem 15:58, March 19, 2010 (UTC)

To those comments above about the use of the Barrett. It has been limited to extreme long range targets where an ordinary round would not be able to reach reliably and also to take out hunkered down hostiles behind things like concrete walls, barracades, cars etc. Also whoevers detonating steel thunder that is depicted above, want to dupe stuff? lol -GT: GAYNOR54

Play the PC version and can only dupe with code, have this Vicious Cobra that is better than the steel thunder..

Bloated-

I'm on a PC as well and would love to dupe some things for you in return for that Cobra. If you're interested my GameSpy ID is Iceman2020, so let me know.

Send me an email I'll send the code.BloatedGoat 17:53, March 21, 2010 (UTC)

If you have the code for a weapon how can you add it in your weapon inventory?

You have to use a program like WillowTree works very easy can give you detailed instructions if required. bloated.goat@live.com BloatedGoat 21:34, March 21, 2010 (UTC)

Thank you.I downloaded willow tree and tried with some codes I found in another topic so it's ok now.Biomechanical13 16:17, March 22, 2010 (UTC)

I have a DVL590 ZZ sherdder shredder that does 1598x5 97.6 accuracy .3 fire rate 2.8 zoom +144% damage +500% crit damage - howlinmadmurd

Actually, the Geneva Convention does NOT prohibit the use of the .50 cal against troops. It prohibits the use of dum-dum bullets and explosive bullets under 20mm with the idea being that the wounds were too inhuman. It was during the 60's that the US military made the PC prohibition against the .50cal but added the 'anti-material' exception. The favorite Sniper round in Iraq/Afganistan is the .50 cal RAUFOSS ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raufoss_Mk_211 ) round which is indeed armor-piercing/explosive/incendiary but 'experts' say it penetrates beyond the human body before it explodes so therefore technically is permissible under the GC since it doesn't explode inside the body. Norway does not agree but permits the sale of RAUFOSS rounds to the Western armies due to the inordinate workload put upon Snipers to carry so many different types of .50cal rounds and interchange them during combat permitting them to carry just one uber-purpose round. -- MeMadeIt 05:01, April 19, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks @MeMadelt, it seems as if YOU are the Keeper of Useless Knowledge and not Proven Mahem. The Barret cannot be used as an anti infantry if and ONLY if you have a standard lead ball round (as it is 'too lethal'[inhumane]) but with the standard round you can fire at vehicles all day long and not be violating the GC (i would not advise shooting at vehicles unless you are active military and have been trained to take out hostile vehicles.) I am the TRUE Keeper of Usless Knowledge :D (just joking) Mazman1521 23:52, April 19, 2010 (UTC)

???? Again, the GC does not prohibit .50cal usage against humans. And neither does the US. You did read the link I posted above, right? There are documented kills in Iraq using this RAUFOSS round. Here's the link to the vid from the History Channel's "Sniper" documenting it's use in Iraq - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRYwMrsaLxs -- MeMadeIt 02:52, April 20, 2010 (UTC)
I was saying that the Geveva Convention only prohibits the use of a .50 cal on infantry if the round is just a lead core (as apposed to a FMJ round where the lead core is encased in copper to lower the lethality factor (but up the penetration apparently). @MeMadelt, the Barret 'Light Fifty' is my favorite gun, so i would know about the usage roles. (plus my grandfather is ex-military so he knows about the GC and what its limits are)Mazman1521 11:24, April 20, 2010 (UTC)
Wrong! The GC says no such thing! Obviously, you refuse to read for yourself and prefer to be spoon-fed. A simple Google search proves both you and Gramps wrong!

Now post your link to a source that proves all them wrong! -- MeMadeIt 19:33, April 20, 2010 (UTC)

wow. lose the animosity. besides, dwelling on something like this is a little creepy. IMonkoii 07:49, April 21, 2010 (UTC)
