Special Weapon Effects
Double Whammy – Fires two bursts of two projectiles each. Horizontal pattern. Reduced ammo consumption.
Usage & Description
The Gemini superficially resembles a non-Legendary repeater pistol with a "double" accessory. Unlike a regular double repeater, the Gemini fires its projectiles in a pattern, spaced horizontally to the left and right of the aim point, and it expends only a single unit of ammo for those two projectiles. Furthermore, each pull of the trigger fires a burst of two of these doubled shots, thus consuming two units of ammo while sending a total of four projectiles downrange. The Gemini accessory grants a larger magazine and increased damage over a regular double repeater, as well as decreased spread, though the decreased spread offers little benefit given the weapon's pattern fire. The nature of the Gemini's pattern makes it difficult to use against foes smaller than Spiderants, and even then only at close range.
The Gemini handles more like a Combat Rifle than a repeater in its burst fire mode, in that holding down the fire key will not continually fire the weapon. It behaves like an Anarchy SMG in terms of ammo economy, emitting four projectiles for every two units of ammo consumed.
- The flavor text is a reference to Judge Dredd, who switches his pistol's firing mode to "Double Whammy" to fire two rounds at a time.
- The name is a reference to the twins Castor and Pollux in Greek mythology.
The Gemini effect comes from the acc4_SandS_Gemini accessory. Compared to the standard acc4_DoubleShot part, the Gemini has an even larger magazine. It fires two projectiles per shot, but unlike the acc4_DoubleShot, it does so at no cost to Spread or Damage, and it does so while consuming only a single unit of ammo. It also adds a two-shot burst effect, separate from the two projectiles per shot "double" effect.
