The Hoplite is a Seraph Turtle Shield manufactured by Pangolin. The Hoplite can only be obtained from trading with the Seraph Vendor in the Badass Crater of Badassitude or as a rare drop from Pete the Invincible.

Special Effects

Alone a mere soldier, together an unstoppable phalanx – Very high shield capacity. Further increases shield capacity and decreases movement speed for every Hoplite user in the party.

Usage and Description

The Hoplite can also be used as an alternative to the Fabled Tortoise, since it has comparable shield capacity and less movement speed reduction (if only used by 1 player). The drawbacks are, that the player won't receive the movement speed boost of the Fabled Tortoise, if the shield gets depleted and the recharge rate and delay are both inferior to the stats of the Fabled Tortoise.

The Hoplite can outclass the Fabled Tortoise in terms of raw capacity, if more than one Hoplite is used in the party. Amusingly this will lead to the Fabled Tortoises main weakness of reduced movement speed.

The Hoplite can be used for a group tanking strategy, if every party member has the Hoplite equiped. This will render the entire party nearly immobile, but also nearly invulnerable to damage.

Notes

• Effects that increase shield capacity based on a percent do not seem to add capacity based on the displayed amount. Amounts added by effects seem to be based on roughly 1/3 of the listed capacity, the rest is ignored. It is possible that most of the capacity is not counted because it is added by the Legendary effect and only the "natural" capacity is used in most cases.

• A Hoplite was a citizen-soldier of the Ancient Greek city-states. Hoplites were primarily armed as spearmen and fought in a phalanx formation.
