Special Weapon Effects
Come on in... Ol' Painful is waiting. – Fires laser bolts instead of bullets. Always incendiary. Increased damage and accuracy (compared to other blue-rarity Vladof miniguns), and greatly increased fire rate and magazine size (higher than purple-rarity Vladof miniguns).
Usage & Description
The Ol'Painful has surprisingly high base damage, and is most effective when used for sustained fire to take advantage of its high fire rate once the barrel has fully accelerated. This is effective in close quarters against multiple targets, and at mid-to-long range against a single target due to its surprising accuracy. As an incendiary weapon however, it does lose significant power when in a vacuum, as its shots can't trigger a damage over time.
It can be used to great effect by Athena when specced into the Ceraunic Storm skill tree, due to its guaranteed incendiary element. Its viability within Ceraunic Storm is further bolstered when boosting its naturally high fire rate using the skill Unrelenting.
- Originally an unobtainable weapon, Ol'Painful was first discovered within the game code for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel alongside The Machine, Jack-o'-Cannon, Wet Week, Boomacorn and several weapons that were either also found within, or cut from Borderlands 2.
- Ol'Painful was made available during the Christmas period of both 2014 and 2015 as a rare drop from Odjurymir, a giant kraggon who replaced Iwajira during these times. As of the January 25th 2016 hotfix however, Ol'Painful has been made a world drop, meaning it has a very small chance of appearing in any lootable object or being dropped by any defeated enemy.
- Ol' Painful and its flavor text refer to the minigun carried by Blain (Jesse Ventura) in the film Predator.
