The Plunkett's unique ability is useful in fights where reloading at the inopportune time can mean life or death, but it is only effective in specific circumstances due to the weapon's very low fire rate.
Nisha's Crack Shot skill grants a significant damage bonus to the first shot of a magazine, which when combined with the Plunkett can result in a significant increase to the weapon's effectiveness (provided all shots are critical hits). When the gun's magazine is full and a critical hit is scored, while Crack Shot's bonus damage will trigger, if the shot kills the target no explosion is created. However, if the magazine has a bullet missing, critical hits will not receive the bonus damage, but will trigger an explosion if the shot kills the target.
Nisha's Tombstone skill also works well with the Plunkett. If Tombstone activates a random critical hit, the Plunkett's special effect will also trigger.
- The Plunkett is one of the rare guns that in addition to its red flavor text, also features unique white text on the weapon's card: "Critical hits remove bullets directly from your ammo pool instead of the weapon."
- The Plunkett was first shown in a promotional image for The Holodome Onslaught, along with the T4s-R, Cry Baby, Party Line, Boxxy Gunn and Berrigan.
- The Plunkett DOES NOT DROP FROM Digistructed Madness: Round 5. It's a myth.
- The name references to Irish soldier in the British army 95th Rifles regiment Thomas Plunket. He is remembered for a feat at the Battle of Cacabelos in 1809, where he shot the French general at a range of around 600 metres (2,000 ft) using a Baker rifle.
