It is only necessary to have 5 effective points in the skill to give a 100% chance of an extra loot roll, so a player may use a Scavenger COM with +4 or +3 to Ransack, and then spec only 1 or 2 actual skill points into the skill. The Scavenger COM's material 1 attribute (+2-4 Team Scavenge Extra Items) also interacts favorably with Ransack looting runs.
Ransack is a vastly underrated skill, almost purely because many players have not tested it despite playing Hunter characters extensively. By providing an extra loot roll, each enemy killed while Ransack is active will drop two items, which basically doubles the chances of finding desirable weapons, shields or COMs.
Since it is an on-kill buff that lasts for the standard 7 seconds, it is best used in areas where multiple enemies can be killed in quick succession.
There may be (purely visual) issues when using it with Swipe in enemy-heavy areas, because the huge number of item highlight "spikes" from the masses of item drops become so numerous that desirable orange or purple drops might have their highlight spikes obscured and become difficult to spot.
