Sand Pirates are an enemy faction introduced in Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty.

The seas of Wurmwater were once home to numerous coastal communities and the major port town of Oasis. All manner of vessels, from small boats to ocean-going ships, could be seen sailing from port to port. The amount of trade available in the area also gave rise to criminal elements, notably pirates with ships of their own and the drive to steal what they didn't have.

As the years wore on the seas retreated and the seabed became a dry and desolate desert. The great old ships became stranded on the sands and occasionally saw new purpose with remnants of the old pirate bands taking up residence in the old ship hulls. New craft emerged to replace them, wich were smaller, lighter, and faster, that could traverse the desert at great speeds, thus ensuring that trade, and piracy, would continue. The pirates themselves simply adapted to life on the sands, and thus became known as sand pirates.

Sand pirates are the dominant human enemies in Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty. They have a full range of light to heavy units and appear in all but two of the areas in the DLC. For the most part, these are disparate groups without any real cohesion or noticeable authority, although Captain Scarlett's crew plays a distinct role that sets them apart from the others.

Captain Scarlett's Crew

General Scarlett Units

Scarlett Corsair - They wield a cutlass and a dagger in combat. They move up close to attack and dodge with erratic movements in a similar fashion to psychos, and can sometimes disappear from the world. They cannot be detected by Zer0's Decepti0n skill while he is invisible. Parts of their attire is scarlet coloured distinguishing them from the regular corsairs. They only appear in Magnys Lighthouse.

Scarlett Crew - An infantry unit typically armed with automatic weapons. They only appear in Magnys Lighthouse.

Sand Pirate Units

Anchorman - Anchormen wield two anchors, which they use to clobber an enemy at close range or reel them in if they're at a distance. When struck with a critical hit, they will deflect bullets by guarding with their anchors whenever they aren't attacking.

Badass Pirate - Badass Pirates are the Badass version of normal Pirates. They have far higher health and wield much more powerful weapons than their standard counterparts (often Torgue or E-tech). They are not very accurate, but can easily shred through a Vault Hunter if ignored. In True Vault Hunter Mode, they are renamed Badass Cannoneers.

Corsair -They wield a cutlass and a dagger in combat. While moving up close to attack they dodge with erratic movements and can sometimes stop to throw daggers at the enemy. On rare ocassions they can disappear and cannot be detected by Zer0's Decepti0n skill while invisible. In True Vault Hunter Mode, they are renamed Pirate Ninjas.

Cabin Boy - Cabin Boys are midget pirates wielding shotguns. They are often knocked to the ground by the recoil of their weapon and have significantly lower health than the standard pirate variant.  In True Vault Hunter Mode, they are renamed Angry Cabin Boys.

Cursed Pirate - Cursed Pirates have a deceptively high amount of health, despite appearing with half of their maximum health. They rush their enemies with incredible speed, and their melee attacks can drain enemies' health and add it to their own.

Grogmaster - Grogmasters rush their enemies with Molotov cocktails and deal dangerous amounts of incendiary damage. They will rarely throw their Molotovs and smash them at their enemies' feet at close range, which instantly kills them.

Gunner - Pirates armed with sniper rifles. They have relatively high health, are almost always shielded and are easily distinguished by their laser sights. In True Vault Hunter Mode, they are renamed DeadEye Gunners.

Harpooner - Harpooners are large pirates similar to minelayers and anchormen, and throw harpoons at long ranges. If an enemy target is hit by a harpoon, he or she will be slowed down for a few seconds and will take minor "bleed" damage. In True Vault Hunter Mode, they are renamed Whalers.

Minelayer - Minelayers carry a large cannon on their backs from which they launch deep sea mines at a distance. In True Vault Hunter Mode, they are renamed Depthcharges.

Pirate -The most common variety of pirate. They typically wield automatic weapons, but can rarely be found with pistols or shotguns. If shot at, they will often dodge to the side and/or hide behind whatever cover is nearby. In True Vault Hunter Mode, they are renamed Violent Pirates.

Powder Monkey - Powder Monkeys are pirates armed with shotguns and barrel-shaped grenades. They have explosive barrels strapped to their backs, which are critical hit areas that will instantly kill the powder monkey and explode when shot. Upon detonation, the explosion will release a number of child grenades, similar to a MIRV.

Raider - Raiders wear psycho masks and rush their enemies with buzz axes in a relatively linear fashion. They occasionally throw axes at an enemy from mid-to-long range, but this is somewhat rare. In True Vault Hunter Mode, they are renamed Pillagers.

Rapscallion - Second only to pirates in abundance. They tend to have higher health than the standard variety, wield pistols (rarely automatic weapons or shotguns) and often crouch to shoot instead of going for cover. In True Vault Hunter Mode, they are renamed Rogues.

Swabbie - The midget version of raiders. They behave similarly to their larger brethren, but are somewhat less agile and have lower health.
