Axton: Why so boring?

Borderlands 2's heroes are an absurdly strong dwarf, an alien ninja, a space-time manipulating femme fatale, and a 30-something white male soldier. Which one doesn't belong here? Axton looks like he belongs in Battlefield or Call of Duty. His generic appearance is made all the more obvious when he's compared to his comrades, who, in my opinion, have a more definitive "Borderlands-ish" appearance.
