Questions on Challenge Pages

Thanks for layout fixes to Horrible Assistants. Is there a canonical "good" challenge page I can use as a template before I make more? Most challenge pages don't have images so I wasn't sure how to do it. Also you removed a tip I had, that another challenge was nearby one of the locations. Was that because the language was sloppy and second person, or is it considered excessive to have challenges mention other challenges? If I were talking to a real person, I'd feel guilty telling them a location, without mentioning something nearby that I know they'd be interested in. Maybe I could put it in a Tips second below the locations? Or is it just not done? (Also this is my first edit on a talk page, so sorry if it comes out weird...) Thanks. Morsk23 (talk) 14:25, January 3, 2014 (UTC)

You did well imitating the structure of other challenge pages actually - much better than many of the other attempts from new contributors here. Thanks for taking the time to do that. The layout adjustment I made was done simply for consistency with other location + map challenge pages and to make better use of the page space.
A tip might be valid, but seeing as it's not relevant to the challenge itself, it is better suited in a new subsection below titled "Notes." And yes, the grammar and directly addressing your readers was part of why that disappeared as well. --WarBlade (talk) 21:12, January 3, 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. It looks like you're making them 250px, 2-column, and centered, so I'll keep that in mind when editing challenges. Ideally there'd be a template for each set of (view, map, caption) to make them all come out the same, but I don't know how to do that yet. Morsk23 (talk) 18:41, January 4, 2014 (UTC)
A template in a case like this would require a fair bit of groundwork in the back end and wouldn't really offer much to make the page easier to edit. Most of what the template would be useful for would be the gallery parameters, and those are hardly worth doing a template for. -- WarBlade (talk) 18:52, January 4, 2014 (UTC)

Tiny Tina

Thanks for cleaning up the Tiny Tina page. I was not happy with it as it was previously edited. Drmaxman 22:53, January 3, 2014 (UTC)

Indeed. The notes were getting longer and overly cluttered with presumption/speculation. -- WarBlade (talk) 23:20, January 3, 2014 (UTC)

About the bucket wheel excavator

Ok fine. But it's still a pretty cool thing to see in the game. :-)

Add-on content

I have been refining the Add-on content page, now that things have calmed down a bit. There are many parts missing such as links, and full alignment is impossible at this time. I have also changed the focus of the article from allusion of DLC that are not mentioned to a promotional bonus note.

Since I do not own "incredible diamond plated, gold laced and platinum pressed loot box of the world" items and do not want to be the sole author, could you take a look at the page please? Thanks. Final signature 21:57, January 17, 2014 (UTC)

I don't have the diamond plate loot chest either. But for comments, I've never been a fan of the whole DLC1, DLC2, thing. That's not an official designation as far as I'm aware and got confusing the moment Borderlands 2 started adding DLCs. And we have got to do something about those obsolete Microsoft Points entries. Documenting them is fine for historical records, but I understand they've been replaced with a new system now. -- WarBlade (talk) 22:05, January 17, 2014 (UTC)

Ok, I will have infinity look into it. It was rather confusing, it should be a bit better now. Final signature 22:22, January 17, 2014 (UTC)

Oh, as far as the DLC# goes, I am not sure how to say it differently. The Season Pass advertised the "first four" DLC and threw in the Ultimate Vault Hunter Pack 1 in for free. It is as official as it gets, although not specifically named. I bought the Season Pass thinking I would get Krieg but it worked out in the long run, since even my slow progress (time available) the GotY edition was even slower. Getting Tiny Tina was a huge bonus with the Season Pass.

On a side note, Did you get the Pre-order bonus? Final signature 23:29, January 17, 2014 (UTC)

Yes, I did. The Creature Slaughter Dome. -- WarBlade (talk) 23:38, January 17, 2014 (UTC)
I looked up the Microsoft point system and it looks like they are just going with normal purchases like the PS and PC. Infinity can confirm. The page is now aligned to the best of my knowledge. Thanks Final signature 04:32, January 19, 2014 (UTC)

Video

Hello, WarBlade! Have simple, but important question - how on this Wiki exist "Video" on all pages? How integrate this, for example, on this Wiki?

http://ru.borderlands.wikia.com/wiki/Borderlands_Wiki http://uk.borderlands.wikia.com/wiki/%D0%92%D1%96%D0%BA%D1%96_Borderlands_Wiki_Ukraine

Thanks for future answer! =) —Preceding unsigned comment added by RJSnaiper (talkcontribs)

Sorry, I don't understand what you're asking me. -- WarBlade (talk) 01:36, January 19, 2014 (UTC)

For example - look on this page http://borderlands.wikia.com/wiki/Maya

Right from text you see 'Latest changes' and 'Video'.

Question - how 'Video' exist hear? —Preceding unsigned comment added by RJSnaiper (talkcontribs)

Oh, I see. You want videos to appear in the right sidebar? If you go to Special:Contact on the Russian Borderlands Wiki there are links to get messages to the right people at Community Central who can help you. -- WarBlade (talk) 21:37, January 20, 2014 (UTC)

moving forward

Hi WarBlade. You're absolutely right! I should've used third person for the edit I made and some of the material I wrote on the regular page belonged on the Talk page. I'm not sure why you put the page on lockdown. It's not like it was being vandalized. There is no way for me to make the minor grammatical changes or move the material to the Talk page as you suggested at this point. Maximumpeaches (talk) 16:57, February 12, 2014 (UTC)

I have let the user know of Sandbox power. Final signature 18:52, February 12, 2014 (UTC)
The lockdown was a soft lock against newcomers because there have been a number of problematic edits to the strategy on that page. You'll be able to edit it again before long. -- WarBlade (talk) 23:04, February 12, 2014 (UTC)
Edited it and left a note on my talk page. Thanks. Maximumpeaches (talk) 04:22, February 14, 2014 (UTC)

I was thinking of using {{SITENAME}} when I updated, and I'd rather do that than swap "the" out for "this." Good suggestion adding the interwiki link. -- WarBlade (talk) 19:07, February 13, 2014 (UTC)

edit on Best Minion Ever and stuff man ya know yeah

Hi WarBlade. If you want to challenge my edit to Best Minion Ever please give some reasons. Some of the changes I made to that page I think were clearly an improvement. For instance I think it was definitely an improvement to write that it is possible to kill Boom first without destroying Big Bertha. I also made some edits to remove the superfluous language of that page. For instance the words, "only very," and especially, "very," were superfluous in front of, "slowly." It's not necessary to say the cannon moves very slowly, you can just say it moves slowly, and I don't see a real use for the word, 'only,' in this setting either. Removing superfluous language is a key to making writing gooder. Also the cannon is not avoided by keeping to cover, the fire from the cannon is avoided, yet the former is what the page claimed before I edited it. So that was clearly a good change as it just reflected proper writing yet you reverted it along with the rest of what I wrote. I don't think it's fair for you to simply revert my edit without some sort of discussion. I'd be open to discussing this with you and think you have a valuable perspective. I saw how you reworded Symbiosis and put Vault Hunter in place of 'character' and I intend to emulate that if I made future edits. I know you make a lot of valuable contributions and have been around for a while so in some sense I'm happy to follow your lead and learn from you but please, and I don't mean to be rude saying this but it kind of sums up the way I feel about your reverting of my work on Best Minion Ever, remember that you don't own this Wikia and perhaps I too can make some valuable contributions. Maximumpeaches (talk) 10:18, February 14, 2014 (UTC)

One other thing we can discuss is whether it is worthwhile to have information... well like mentioning that when Bewm flies he is a difficult target and mentioning that the Psychos running around can be used for a second wind is not exactly advice. It does look sort of like advice. That Bewm is hard to target is not really prescriptive in any sense and so provides no extra usefulness to the paragraph and the fact that the Psychos can be killed for a second wind is true in the entire game and is akin to saying something very general like, 'shoot for the head.'
Overall we can go over each of these points and I would probably listen to you if you have some point here or there, but to be frank, it seems like it slows progress and both of us could be improving this Wikia in more productive ways elsewhere. I know it discourages me from making future edits if we're going to have to debate all of these points, but if you have any specific complaints about my edit on Best Minion Ever then I'm all ears. Maximumpeaches (talk) 10:31, February 14, 2014 (UTC)
Please review our policy pages, and especially take some time to understand the overarching style of this wiki before rewriting significant portions of pages. Over the past couple of days you've made various references to "you" and now you're introducing "the player" into the environment of Pandora. Had you sat back and read, you might have noticed that references to "the player," and especially "you," don't last long on this wiki. You've asked for a discussion about the reverts as well. Well the discussions have been made numerous times already, so at this point they're quite stale. I have a few comments on my profile page about some of the things puzzling you I think. Maybe they'll help. -- WarBlade (talk) 12:19, February 14, 2014 (UTC)
Your user page helped clarify what you think is best in how to refer to the character. It's not actually just third person but use of the words, 'character,' instead of, 'player,' which makes sense. I went ahead and made a second edit to The Best Minion ever. It is more conservative than my first edit as Best Robot had suggested on my Talk page. For any material I did remove I did so because it seemed untrue to me and also created a section on the Best Minion Ever Talk page for discussion of that material. Maximumpeaches (talk) 19:12, February 14, 2014 (UTC)

Page format

Can you please check on Willy the Skag page? I did some minor infobox fixes but did not add categories because some are supposed to be automatic. I have not looked into the template to see what is appropriate, since you already know. Thanks. Final signature 17:54, February 22, 2014 (UTC)

Also to note: a new discussion has been brought up on my talk page. Final signature 18:14, February 22, 2014 (UTC)

Editing the Lootable Objects page

Hi WarBlade. At this section Lootable_object#Bandit_Dook_Hut I'm considering adding a second notice saying that you also should notice that the toilet paper is both turned up and down. (A fact I find fun that they included)

Edit: At Lootable_object#Other_objects I'm considering adding that they contain amunition too. But I do not quite recall if it's true or not. After a recheck (in tk baha's hut in bl2) I were to find out that no changes needs to be done here.

In fact. There's a bunch of stuff on that page I'm going to recheck/verify and later today edit the page.

- Greetings Zerot Zallander (talk) 12:33, February 23, 2014 (UTC)

the page is woefully out-of-date. updating the page with lootable objects from the current list of DLC content would be quite helpful and appreciated. cheers.

Notes section

I think I may have messed up the format on the Digistruct Peak Challenge page. I think the notes section should be after the missions section? Please take a look, thanks. Final signature 19:45, March 3, 2014 (UTC)

Mad request

Mad asked me to let you know that it was not his intention to change properly spelled words. The conversation (on steam) left with his promise to check the internet before spell correcting from now on.

If you could shorten the block, he would appreciate it. I will also reinforce the fact on his talk page, regardless on how you handle it.

P.S. I thought it was a bot again, but it was just browser spell correction. Final signature 15:17, March 7, 2014 (UTC)

Mission reward page

I am thinking on how to handle mission reward items. They either need to be a category, which is kinda bloated on certain items, or there needs to be a page listing mission reward items.

Its been a while since I have played Borderlands but I can do research and start the list. Which do you think is more appropriate? Final signature 13:56, March 9, 2014 (UTC)

Category:Mission reward items would be ideal. Wikia actually discourages pages that are little more than lists. It raises another question though: would you be interested in an infobox update on item pages to name the mission that the item is acquired from? -- WarBlade (talk) 21:03, March 9, 2014 (UTC)

Yes, the infobox update would be good... wait, are you asking me to do it and not screw it up? Is this a test? Maybe you should do it... edit:just kidding, you should do the template, I should do the additions

The Category:Mission reward items works but how would we differentiate between games?

I thought a page would make it easier on the categories of Pimpernel, among others but it doesn't really matter to me. I would suggest Category:Mission rewards (Borderlands) and Category:Mission rewards (Borderlands 2) for a less bloated category link. Final signature 07:59, March 10, 2014 (UTC)

I've given myself a bit of time to ponder this and I'd rather not roll two ideas into one category again unless the number of items appearing in the category pushes the category lists to multiple pages. If we start with just the basic category, and update the relevant articles, we can then reassess and adjust the item templates for a split with minimum fuss later on. -- WarBlade (talk) 20:15, March 17, 2014 (UTC)

Thats fine. I will be able to add stuff after getting my PC up and running. If you do a couple examples, I will duplicate. Final signature 18:45, March 18, 2014 (UTC)

This may be a bit more sticky than first anticipated... I ran across Guaranteed Drops as a Borderlands attempt at the same idea. The incorporation of Borderlands 2 has been mildly attempted through the link to Unique items.

That being said, it is possible to streamline that page (a bit) and make a link to Mission Reward Item where applicable instead of a new category and incorporate Borderlands 2 into the existing category. What do you think? Final signature 13:28, March 21, 2014 (UTC)

I've put a test version up in the infobox on the Bane. There is also the "mission loot" template at the head of the body text to consider. I could revert the infobox if the other template is fine as is, or editors could gradually phase out that old template and hand over the mission acknowledgement to the infobox. -- WarBlade (talk) 06:23, March 24, 2014 (UTC)

I like the page as it is. Even though the manufacturer and mission reward information is redundant in the infobox, it still seems like the best introduction for the page as well. Also many people skip infobox information so including manufacturer and mission reward in both the introduction and infobox is good IMO. Final signature 10:53, March 24, 2014 (UTC)

Rhys' infobox being buggy

Hello WarBlade.

While I were making the page Rhys I found that the infobox were refusing to co-operate with me. Would you mind have a look at it?

- Greetings Zerot Zallander (talk) 23:47, March 14, 2014 (UTC)

I'm not sure why it was doing that, but a fresh copy/paste from the template page fixed it. There was something fishy going on with the spaces between the text and the "=". -- WarBlade (talk) 20:15, March 17, 2014 (UTC)

Enemies

I'd say we should add borderlands 2 enemies to the Enemies page.

Just an opinion..

- Greetings Zerot Zallander (talk) 21:16, March 19, 2014 (UTC)

I second that... Its not an opinion, its something that needs done.

The common enemies (for both games) should be listed first with the {{HeadingB|Borderlands/Borderlands 2}} templates separating enemies specific to both games. My opinion Final signature 13:42, March 21, 2014 (UTC)

Please keep an eye on the binary(my nickname) page, it may need locked if the unusual text conversion is too attractive for editors. Thanks. Final signature 00:00, March 23, 2014 (UTC)

Mission 1

Note: I have not played in the character template previous to this mission.

For the most part, it is intuitive. The field of type classifier is kinda NOT.

3 concerns:

  1. multiple notes and trivia
  2. no section edit button
  3. cant get the }} to go away at the end

Feel free to edit User:I am the best robot/mission1 however you see fit. I can look at the history to see any fixing that you choose. Final signature 17:30, April 12, 2014 (UTC)

The type clarifier might need a better name. It's essentially nothing more than a disambiguation clarifier that won't be needed much, and because you haven't entered a valid character type the clarifier won't display. This is by design. I've tried to make the template mildly idiot resistant, so some of the kinds of edits that newcomers routinely make (that spark prompt reverts/corrections from others) won't display.
On that note, try doing a few of those kinds of things. Mimic some legitimate characters. ;)
Re. 3 concerns:
  1. Multiple notes and trivia? If you're referring to those code boxes you made, that's a wiki markup thing. Using the space bar to indent text generates a rudimentary code box, like a budget version of <pre> tags. This can happen on any page and isn't a fault with the template.
  2. No edit section buttons. Okay, that's something I've never done before. Infoboxes don't typically have edit section buttons, but I suppose I could explore that if people need it.
  3. I'm not sure why you put extra brackets in at the end. Backspace or delete.
--WarBlade (talk) 19:48, April 12, 2014 (UTC)
will mimic, since I am done mocking.
  1. Just having a hard time making more than one trivia for the page. My last edit shows several attempts at multiple trivia without success.
  2. Edit buttons help to see what was edited at a glance on recent activity. Handy for ignoring quote edits and such. They also help while editing a large page.
  3. My bad, it was a copy paste and I didn't scroll all the way down.
I will play with it a bit more. Final signature 02:28, April 13, 2014 (UTC)
You'll find that your bullet point lists will work if you stick to using them the same way you've always used them: left margin asterisks. -- WarBlade (talk) 02:32, April 13, 2014 (UTC)

Character Classes template

So should we go ahead and edit the Character Classes template? I'm considering doing it and just letting you know in case, but I thought it'd be better to ask first. I just don't want to lose that edit because I'm an edit whore :) InfinitysCross (talk) 03:58, April 15, 2014 (UTC)

Which template exactly is the "character classes" template that you refer to? -- WarBlade (talk) 04:00, April 15, 2014 (UTC)
This'd be it, sir. Didn't expect such a swift response. InfinitysCross (talk) 04:07, April 15, 2014 (UTC)
If you're referring to adding the announced characters, it's a bit too soon. We're wrapping our heads around announced-but-in-development game content at the moment, and the devs are saying "subject to change," so we'd be making edits based on assumptions and predictions. It's not recommended. -- WarBlade (talk) 04:15, April 15, 2014 (UTC)
Alright, thanks for your input. InfinitysCross (talk) 04:15, April 15, 2014 (UTC)

Character template/disambig

Do you think it is advantageous to do some converting to the character template, while in the process? Final signature 09:19, May 5, 2014 (UTC)

Ok, in my preliminary glaces there are some discrepancy as to class mod being displayed as a capitol. This is probably due to link pop up being capitol but I wanted to double check while searching pages with Cntrl-F and align the pages. A class mod should be lower case while the specific name of a class mod should be capitol. Correct? Final signature 09:47, May 5, 2014 (UTC)

Capital, with an "A." Capitol refers to an American government building. But yeah, "class mod" is a common noun, so lower case. Individual names like the Slayer of Teramorphous are proper nouns. And yes, if you want to do some page conversions in the process, go for it. -- WarBlade (talk) 11:37, May 5, 2014 (UTC)

Omnd-Omnd-Ohk and character template

I'm kind of out of practice here, and I'm definitely out of the loop.

Omnd-Omnd-Ohk is an opponent, not a character. It's a pretty stub page at the moment: I wanted to correct that, but I'm not sure where to fill out descriptions of attacks etc. with the new template. Is that template even appropriate for a miniboss? Please advise how I should revise.

All participants in the story are characters. The subdivisions are currently playable characters, enemies and NPCs. There is a guideline on what to enter in the template fields on the Template:Character page. The strategy section is the one you're after. -- WarBlade (talk) 20:32, May 14, 2014 (UTC)

In a Gadda Da Vita

I just bought the Vita version of BL2 (inb4 waste of money). Is there anything you'd like me to check in game to compare against the wiki? Do you think we should make a page for it? If a Chicken, a Penguin and an Ostrich teamed up, do you think they could fly? InfinitysCross (talk) 20:32, May 14, 2014 (UTC)

After some preliminary tests with the chicken, penguin, ostrich, and a trebuchet, I can confirm that the birds can fly, and when tied together the chicken and penguin tend to orbit around the greater centre of mass presented by the ostrich. The Vita version of Borderlands 2 is worthy of an article. -- WarBlade (talk) 20:56, May 14, 2014 (UTC)

Wikia's Video Swap Tool

Hi there!

Though you might already know about, I thought I’d remind you about [Special:LicensedVideoSwap|Wikia’s Video Swap tool], which allows you to very easily swap out YouTube videos embedded across your community for the Wikia equivalent. It only effects YouTube videos with a matching Wikia video. Swapping out your videos for matching officially licensed Wikia videos means that the videos on your community are less likely to be taken down and rendered unwatchable.

With your approval, I can go through and make these swaps for you — if you’d rather undertake this task yourself — or if you’re uninterested entirely — just let me know! I'll likely start making some of the swaps for you in a week, so be sure to let me know as soon as you can if you'd rather not make the switch."

Thanks!

Looking through the glass

I have found an anomaly. I was looking at the disambiguation links and Bandit stood out a bit so I started delving into that sticky web.

1. The infobox for weapons manufactured by bandit lead to the disambiguation page.

2. Links that are not linking to the disambiguation, are linking to redirects such as Bandit (Manufacturer).

The "manufacturer" field works for Jolly Roger but the "manufacturer1" field does not.

The fields for multiple manufacturers are pretty complex so I wont mess with them (Dr.F would scream at me on steam for breaking his wiki).

Anyway, just throwing out the "broken" part of the existing template. After characters and weapons, the major part of the wiki pages would be template ready. Final signature 17:55, May 18, 2014 (UTC)

Yes, I'm aware of the banditry happening in the links (although haven't looked at that redirect yet - I'll look at that shortly). Much of that is because manufacturer1, 2, 3, etc. have not been reworked for the disambiguation clarifier yet. I'm holding off on that while cleaning up nearby. If the code needed to work around the links is going to be long and fiddly, it might wind up being a case of having manual link overrides on the articles instead. -- WarBlade (talk) 19:51, May 18, 2014 (UTC)
Bandit (Manufacturer) links are just manual - not templated. -- WarBlade (talk) 20:01, May 18, 2014 (UTC)
I was unclear, 2 is a separate issue. The redirect itself is the cause of the link. For example, Bandit (Faction) will not work. The page was moved originally creating the redirect. My suggestion is deleting it, just wanted to run it by you first. Sry I didn't say that.
I really wanted to touch on the first one, since the pages should be templated like the character pages (but you know about it). Final signature 17:51, May 19, 2014 (UTC)

Doctor Samuels

Why did you delete my Doctor Samuels page? Is she not a character in the game? She's even in a mission, kind of. Zer0issilent (talk) 15:53, May 21, 2014 (UTC)

Because so far she's nothing more than a few words in some ECHO recordings, and those words can be covered entirely within the scope of an ECHO transcript, which is already documented on the Doctor's Orders page. Additionally, your Krieg addition was speculation, and therefore invalid. -- WarBlade (talk) 19:02, May 21, 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the cleanup.  I've been awake for 36 hours and forgot the rules about using personal identifiers on pages! DarkEternal (talk) 19:47, May 21, 2014 (UTC)

Chubby Page

Just wanted to say thanks for adding to what I added to the chubby page. Didn't know it drop almost all legendaries. Why wasn't that there, though? I remember awhile back I saw that it said  it could drop the Bunny, then now I check today wondering what was edited about it today (I was looking at the recent history) and it doesn't? Sorry if I don't have adequate grammar, by the way. FirePlaye (talk) 03:40, June 2, 2014 (UTC)

The chubby pages are under construction at the moment. The information is more or less scattered on different pages. Thanks for adding to the main heading which is a stub. I have several projects on the back burner and increased time at work... the chubby page is one of them. It needs updating and the information gathered there.

Although Chubby Bones is its own page, the chubby enemies do not really warrant their own pages separately and there are references scattered throughout their respective normal pages (such as Skag).

Looking into how to gather the info and link it from the normal pages is what I had in mind. Final signature 18:40, June 2, 2014 (UTC)

ECHO recording pages

You do realize you could say the same thing about Lietenant Booth? She's never seen, and only appears in ECHO recordings. Yet she has her own page. What is your explanation for that? Zer0issilent (talk) 19:48, June 3, 2014 (UTC)

I am not sure which ECHO character you are referring to, but I do know that Booth is introduced as a multiple ECHO personality with a huge storyline and background that introduces and explains the entire Caustic Caverns area as well as other ECHO personalities and a mini-boss. Her background ties into Pandoran history as well. Final signature 08:47, June 4, 2014 (UTC)

Okay, I'm beginning to see your point. Nontheless, I still believe that Doctor Samuels should be mentioned somewhere on the wiki, as she is part of the game. I have not ever seen a reference to her on this wiki. You can't deny she is still a part of the game, even if she plays a minor role. Zer0issilent (talk) 16:18, June 4, 2014 (UTC)

By the way, Best Robot, I was referring to when I asked Warblade about his deleting of my Doctor Samuels page. Zer0issilent (talk) 16:21, June 4, 2014 (UTC)

Dr. Samuels can be mentioned as part of the appropriate page but it has to be done correctly. We are talking about the Wildlife Exploitation ECHOs, correct? Remember that the entire subject is surrounded by speculation and controversy due to some of Kriegs quotes and everyone's thoughts about it.

If you are having a tough time getting facts published, remember that you may edit any talk page freely with any subject (even speculation). I would try incorporating the factual data onto the page and if that doesn't work, take it to the talk page for a record. Final signature 17:44, June 4, 2014 (UTC)

when checking the list of enemies for borderlands 2, in the Hyperion infantry section the Hyperion soldier (borderlands 2) isn't there. Could you please add it i'm new to the wiki and if you can add an image to the Hyperion Soldier your help will be very appreciated.

E3 Portal Banner on Game Page

Hey there WarBlade

My name is Doug and I'm a member of Wikia's Community Development Team! E3 2014 is next week and we'll be providing a wide variety of exciting coverage of the event! We are also looking to help promote a lot of the great work that the Borderlands community creates and showcases during that time.

I am stopping by to ask for permission to embed this E3 2014 Pencil Banner on the top (or bottom) of the Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel game page on your wiki. This will link back to our E3 Portal on the Games Hub, where we will be posting a wide variety of newly released info and media. Any content added by your community can also be showcased on this page! We wish to get as many eyes on your community and the hub as possible during the event.

The banner will only need to be in place for next week, after which it can be removed. if I have your permission to proceed and embed, please let me know! Thanks so much and have a great one. TheBlueRogue @Wikia •(profile)•(talk)•(doug@wikia-inc.com) 19:01, June 4, 2014 (UTC)

Hammerlock quote

The last quote on the page is part of mission dialogue. Also, if you talk to Hammerlock when he has a mission available, but don't accept the mission right away, instead lingering on it for a little bit, he will say, "I'm sorry, should I pay you upfront?"

Splash damage

My recent edits on splash damage (especially ION loaders) is based on memory from using a Harold with Krieg. I have not had time to test it before adding to the wiki so I will make that a top priority next time I have an oppertunity to play. If you could test it as well, that would be appriciated. Lemme know if you find anything. Note that I don't have a norfleet... Final signature 18:39, June 17, 2014 (UTC)

well... Once you've tried dropping a corrosive bouncy betty at the feet of an ION Loader just as it starts spinning up, then watch with glee as other loaders converge on it, you hardly worry about splash damage. :D -- WarBlade (talk) 19:33, June 17, 2014 (UTC)
Hmmm, two players: one with a singularity to quicken the pace... sounds fun. Final signature 05:32, June 18, 2014 (UTC)
The singularity causes knockback and disrupts the bubble. The trick is to let the ION Loader spin with the bouncing betties inside the shield, and then the nearby loaders continue to march into the kill box of their own accord. ;) Two players could have some fun with both a cloud grenade and a bouncing betty though... or just multiple betties... :) -- WarBlade (talk) 10:22, June 18, 2014 (UTC)
The slag bouncing betty seems to be the absolute best chance to slag with the least chance to wound yourself in a nade. Slag singularities seem to never work... I am looking for a longbow explosive singularity to switch out, if I ever get a chance to play again LOL Final signature 17:07, June 18, 2014 (UTC)

Response times

how long does it normally take on the forums till somebody responds??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Whiz IV (talkcontribs)

Responding to talk pages, forums, blogs or even contributing to the wiki is purely a voluntary action. Short answer: maybe never.

Response depends on the subject. Give it some time, a couple weeks? Not everyone checks the wiki everyday. You can also (tentatively) start asking around on talk pages of active members that might have what you seek. Check profiles to see if they posted the system they are on. You may also re-post after a time, perhaps a blog? Final signature 05:28, June 18, 2014 (UTC)

Furthermore, correct formatting of a forum page, with the appropriate template header, may make people more likely to respond. -- WarBlade (talk) 10:22, June 18, 2014 (UTC)

Possible language differences

Hey WarBlade, just thought I'd bring this up, but on the Hyperius page you reverted my edit of removing the second "s" after "Hyperius'". I'm wondering if this is possibly down to me using UK English, as for my entire life I've been taught that a name ending in an "s" requires only an apostrophe to express possession, and not an apostrophe and another "s". Having the name "James" I've had to do this since I was four, and have always had English tutors agree with it, so I thought it could possibly be down to localisation of the English language and the rules that apply to it. Incarnate Sable (talk) 03:42, June 27, 2014 (UTC)

I've researched this point before and there are actually two schools of thought on it with a preferred method and an accepted method. The preferred method appears to be s's, or in other words writing it how it sounds when spoken aloud. The possessive apostrophe for a single person is pretty straight forward, but the correct (apparently) possessive for a proper noun group can be a little awkward. eg. "James's house was beige, and the Jameses' house next door was brown."
Aside from all that, we have a standing request here on the Borderlands Wiki that we do not override correct written English with an alternative correct version of English, for example the distinctions between American English and other forms of English. So "color" and "colour" are sacrosanct and shouldn't be changed, but feel free to fix a bad "coller". -- WarBlade (talk) 04:01, June 27, 2014 (UTC)

Re: Editor

Character template. That thing is really inconvenient to use, scrolling wise. It doesn't seem to make things easier to edit either.

Dr. Feelgood (talk) 05:32, July 2, 2014 (UTC)

Media field

The character template could use a media field, as evident on the Bad Maw page. Final signature 07:49, July 3, 2014 (UTC)

I've avoided media fields for several reasons.
  • One is that characters that could make good use of them are in the minority, and any new subsection is a subsection that becomes hidden for every character until used. I'd prefer to keep new subsections as relevant as possible.
  • Media can just as easily be inserted into existing subsection in cases where the media is appropriate. See what I did there?
  • Media sections have a habit of attracting media, thereby increasing page load times.
  • We've discussed moving things like galleries into sub pages before, so media remains a discussion topic as another reason to potentially script in a nav box to access multiple sub pages.

Wiki News

Gearbox's channel uploaded the video, wouldn't it make more sense to have the news time be set to local time for GBX, which would be CST? Watching it from international shouldn't mean we should change the given release date based on its origin, if that makes sense. InfinitysCross (talk) 02:38, July 8, 2014 (UTC)

The date stamp on the linked page is displayed as "07.08.14 - Jeff Skal" to me. It's a moot point though. This is a wiki with a worldwide audience. Any time someone wants to post a date, they need only drop five tildes in sequence and the software will supply an appropriate date stamp. -- WarBlade (talk) 02:46, July 8, 2014 (UTC)

Images Categories

I had assumed they were screenshots. Or am I mistaken?--0Blink (talk) 21:10, July 16, 2014 (UTC)

The category structure was updated by the admins in '09 to the structure we use today. The base category for images is Category:Images and most images fall into a category of that. Category:Screenshots was deprecated, but never completely removed. It is largely the case that most of the images of game content here are screenshots, so as a category "screenshots" is almost useless. -- WarBlade (talk) 04:13, July 17, 2014 (UTC)
Is that something you would like me to help with? I mean re-cating images that are generically Category:Borderlands_2_Screenshots into more appropriate categories. I can let you know when I get everything without questions, leaving the rest to you. If you would like to get rid of that category as well, that is. Anyway, let me know. Final signature 07:48, July 17, 2014 (UTC)

Consolidation

Warblade, I feel that Threshers should hold all of their variants on one page. That is the way it is with the Varkid page. I noticed that the Tropical Varkid page was a candidate for deletion because all the variants go on the Varkid page. Shouldn't it be the same case with Threshers? Zer0issilent (talk) 21:36, July 25, 2014 (UTC)

The idea of consolidating piles of different subjects into one article was something that a few people did early on here, despite obvious problems that would arise once new variants were added in DLCs, and not-so-obvious problems if Borderlands ever had a sequel. In the interests of keeping categories clear, I've been splitting out a few of the more problematic ones lately when I go to update characters with the Character template. -- WarBlade (talk) 05:12, July 26, 2014 (UTC)

New Page Possibility

Should there be a page about locations in both games, and how they tie together? It could help people to see just how much the games are connected in the series. It's just a suggestion, and i don't know if it would be very popular

SQuick123 (talk) 08:24, July 28, 2014 (UTC)SQuick123

Without anything else to go on (based on SQuick123's contributions), there could be a Eridian Ruins section added to the Eridian page. This could list facts of what Eridian ruins look like (and pics) and where they are located. Final signature 13:12, July 28, 2014 (UTC)
The various campaigns don't really tie together very much geographically, and any time someone's tried to sort out the location of Borderlands areas, they've soon hit the conclusion that the Borderlands campaign isn't even consistent with itself. I think the best approach is to just note any geographic relationships on any relevant articles personally. -- WarBlade (talk) 14:37, July 28, 2014 (UTC)
Just to be specific, are you also resistant to my compromise of expanding the ruins facts on the Eridian page. And also, I take it by "geographic relationships" you do not mean "this area resembles that". have fun on your tour Final signature 18:35, July 28, 2014 (UTC)
I'm not resistant to that idea, no. With geographic relationships I'm reading between the lines a bit, especially with that specuation about the Vault and the a connection to the Leviathan's Lair. Add to that, the bus stop area is shown in three different versions now, which I think might be the kind of thing that SQuick123 is driving at. -- WarBlade (talk) 19:45, July 28, 2014 (UTC)

Legendary Gunzerker

What the heck was that?

Meaning {{DEFAULTSORT:ZX-1, The}}.

Is that a built in command?

And what is :Category:S? Final signature 14:37, August 1, 2014 (UTC)

I found it on the markup code but what does the category mean? Final signature 14:51, August 1, 2014 (UTC)

Category:S is minor problem that will go away if someone supplies the weapon type in the infobox. I was tempted to put "Assault Rifle" there, but opted to leave it for someone who had a clear idea of the weapon type. The DEFAULTSORT command is something that we probably should have done from the outset, but neglected. I've been changing that in recent months after stumbling on a few pages here that used it. If you click on one of the (valid) categories, you'll find the ZX-1 listed under "Z" rather than "T". This feature is normally used to categorise people by their last names, although I haven't bothered doing that on the Borderlands Wiki yet - just stripped the definite articles from the front of names that use it, eg. The Warrior. -- WarBlade (talk) 15:06, August 1, 2014 (UTC)
That is completely random, unless "s" means sortkey? I suppose it is better than nothing if a wiki needs categories. Final signature 21:09, August 1, 2014 (UTC)

Infobox Images

I was wondering how you attach an image to the information column of an article. I found a picture for the Midget Boner article, but I couldn't figure out how to add it.

Zer0issilent (talk) 00:55, August 10, 2014 (UTC)

There are three different edit interfaces, and without knowing which one you use your question is a little tricky to answer. I use source mode myself, and under that structure simply change this:
|Image =

to this:
|Image = NameOfYourImageHere.png
If you use VisualEditor, load the edit interface and click on the infobox (or anywhere within the page in the case of a fully templated character article). Then you can click on "Character" in the top-right to load the template editor. Scroll down to "Image" and put the file name of your image in there.
I don't recommend trying to edit anything with the abysmal classic rich text editor. -- WarBlade (talk) 06:57, August 10, 2014 (UTC)

To be honest the editor for that page simply doesn't work on my user end. Sorry, new to the wiki but attempting to correct the bad information Jiandersonzer0 (talk) 01:51, August 21, 2014 (UTC)
You tend to use VisualEditor, so if you click on the templated area you should get the template editor component to show up, which you can then open by clicking on the top-right button called "Character". This is the same for updating content on any template, which you might want to try out on an information box in a weapon article first to see how it works. In the case of most of the characters, the template covers most of the page the page, rather than just the infobox. If you still can't find any of that, then locate the source editor button in the drop down menu next to "Cancel" in the edit pane, and use that instead. -- WarBlade (talk) 05:54, August 21, 2014 (UTC)

Terminator

Well, it was funny. Anyway, isn't the name a reference to the terminator? I don't know all the history on the page, just thought you might know without a bunch of research. Final signature 06:04, August 22, 2014 (UTC)

There are two suppositions on the page about what the origin of the word is, one being Terminator, and the other being a fusion of Dahl and "dominator," neither of which have anything to do with the Trinity reference. As a result, I've commented them both out, and if someone wants to dig the information out of the devs I'd be keen to see a definitive source for one or the other reference.
Additionally, image captions that are player-made references have often caused contributors to add fluff to trivia sections, so I've changed a few of them. I've never bothered to try and push for a rule on keeping new references out of the captions, but occasionally a caption attracts unwanted trivia enough to warrant a caption change. -- WarBlade (talk) 06:31, August 22, 2014 (UTC)
That would be interesting, since it is obviously a reference to something. As far as captions go, they are really not necessary and would be better off without. The rules are not stated, and they are emotionally motivated without basis in fact. -->More policy?kidding Final signature 11:35, August 22, 2014 (UTC)

Captions

I found the original discussion on the subject which had rules laid out by happypal. I was unsure if editors were allowed one revert or none. Note that this is when editors participated in discussions. This is a different community with different opinions. Perhaps it should be re-addressed.

The biggest problem with captions is in the eye of the beholder with happypal on a quest to delete captions that he didn't like. Not that he was wrong.

Without the "rules" posted, the community still has the "Edit War" link in the policy as a guide. Works for me. Final signature 15:17, August 22, 2014 (UTC)

Interesting find. It looks like I stayed clear of that discussion entirely, and I expect that it was because I had no firm stand on either position and just wanted to let the discussion run its course without influencing it. Some good points were raised, and the bit about it being an element of fun in an otherwise heavily controlled environment is part of the reason why I've been content to leave the captions as they are and not drop a set of rules all over them. I don't think the three-rule proposal is optimal; references in the captions have led to people adding trivia notes about fan-additions that aren't in the game, so the suggestion about trivia having to be a reference falls flat with me. One thing that everyone agrees on though is that captions generally need to be of good quality. I agree with that position. --WarBlade (talk) 21:02, August 22, 2014 (UTC)
As the only active admin on a daily basis, you do have leeway. Barring posting of the rules, quality and edit wars are always a guideline. There is still the eye of the beholder on a subjective entity but there has been no major problems with it. Of course, any random admin may pop up and start changing things. not mentioning names Final signature 13:42, August 23, 2014 (UTC)

Re; skill templates

Yo, sorry about that. I had forgotten there would be changes with the templates. I realized that the game is gonna be coming out here in a few weeks and that I had been the one to make all of the characters pages/skill pages/categories for BL2, so I thought i might as well start for the PS.

Athena was more of a test run to see where everything needed to be and whatever was updated I could just copy the template from her page and use on the others. (I seriously just copied Kriegs template and changed the links to the appropriate page)

But anywho, thanks for the reminder. I apologize for getting ahead on that, I actually had some free time today to attempt to help out here again. But I'll still be around every now and then, I WILL try to be on top of the new changes I just haven't been on here as much lately and it slipped my mind. Re: Categories

Apologies regarding the use of now defunct categories. I've been away for a while and wasn't aware that a significant change had been made to categories as well as infoboxes. Is there a post/page somewhere detailing all the changes so I can know which categories to use in future? As an extension on that, what's happening to all the materials currently found in the now defunct categories? If there is a plan in place regarding their movement, I could help (most of the work I do on the wiki is categorizing due to time constraints now). If there isn't a plan in place, should I leave the images normally falling into these categories as uncategorized for the time being?

Again, apologies. Until I receive confirmation regarding this, I will leave uncategorized images that I would normally categorize as Screenshots without categories. Unless a massive overhaul has occurred, the other categories I make use of regularly should still be valid (Images of weapons, Skins, Images of enemies).

Thank you for all time and efforts put towards this.

The Delightful Doomsayer Fire Water Balance cropped Balance in Destruction 21:17, September 23, 2014 (UTC)

I haven't drafted any kind of rule set, but in general terms:

  • Category:Images is the root category, and preferably most images will just be categorised into a subcategory of that.
  • Images should have an appropriate license template.
  • If an image looks like it has been harvested from somewhere (eg. unlicensed .jpg with tumblr or facebook file name), it will probably need to be deleted, so just leave it.
  • If an image is unused, and fails in category, license etc. just leave it. You might find some that are so obviously bad as to be unusable - feel free to delete-tag it.
  • If you're not sure leave it.
-- WarBlade (talk) 21:27, September 23, 2014 (UTC)

Sounds good to me. I'll leave the questionable images alone or delete tag them if they are unusable. I do have a couple questions. First off, is the latest image policy update found in the Watercooler still valid, or will any parts of this likely be changing? This policy only has a major effect on images of weapons. Secondly, should licenses be added to images that are lacking them, or is this viewed as a responsibility of the uploader? (I guess categorising is also a responsibility of the uploader, not that it makes a large difference to some uploaders) I'm only asking in relation to cases where the license template to apply would be fairly obvious, I don't want to extend the lifespan of any images we don't want or need. I'm assuming that the note about license templates relates to ALL images appearing on the wiki, and not only the uncategorized/newly uploaded images that I am normally dealing with.

I'm also curious regarding unlicensed images appearing on a userpage. I'm not looking to deal with that one myself, just wondering so I know about adding images to my own userpages.

Not meaning to be a pest, just hoping to get back into controlling the pix w/o cats like I did a while back. Thanks for helping me get the information I need for this.

The Delightful Doomsayer Fire Water Balance cropped Balance in Destruction 21:58, September 23, 2014 (UTC)

I see no reason to add anything further to that image policy discussion. The participants have come to some level of agreement, and that's great. Licenses should be the responsibility of the uploader, but yeah if it's obvious, and the image is sorely needed, then add the appropriate license. For images in your own user page the license will probably be self, or fairuse. -- WarBlade (talk) 10:44, September 24, 2014 (UTC)

Mission Reward Item Categorization

I noticed the mission reward item category in the wanted categories list and just noticed the discussion between Robot and yourself regarding it on your talk page (Robot linked it to me on my talk page a long time ago). Was anything ever decided regarding this? The infobox works, so the category page could be created and then have more reward items added to it. This I could work on myself on an ongoing basis.

If it was decided that the category wouldn't be used for any reason, then I could just go remove the infobox sections that are causing it (there's only three, iirc).

Either way, thank you for all consideration and time put into answering.

As a side note, congratulations on Wikia Star. You most definitely deserve it. The Delightful Doomsayer Fire Water Balance cropped Balance in Destruction 00:27, September 25, 2014 (UTC)

I'm in two minds about that field. Robot wanted it, and I thought it was reasonable so I added it. Then he didn't do anything with it. If he wants to develop it, it should stay. If not, it might as well be removed. -- WarBlade (talk) 01:08, September 25, 2014 (UTC)

(Continuation from Robot's talk page)

Does this apply to ALL possible mission rewards as of now, or only weapons? For example, the Love Thumper is a mission reward, and a shield. I'm asking mainly because the specific template that was listed is for weapons.
The Delightful Doomsayer Fire Water Balance cropped Balance in Destruction 02:50, September 26, 2014 (UTC)
I haven't rigged that up on the shield template yet. -- WarBlade (talk) 02:57, September 26, 2014 (UTC)
...And now I have. -- WarBlade (talk) 10:30, September 26, 2014 (UTC)

Front Page templates

'ello warblade,

Would it be a wise decision to merge template:contents to a template with all of the information for the first game? And should there be a separate template for the community portal as well? Razldazlchick 16:46, September 26, 2014 (UTC)

To be honest, I think we need a complete rebuild of all those templates. With a third game now in the mix we have multiple templates repeating links, and therefore just taking up unnecessary space. Add to that the psycho background image used for the first game has become less relevant and is now used for Borderlands 2 skills navigation templates. Those things have been on my we-need-to-fix-this radar for a long time, but I've never even got as far as making a plan. -- WarBlade (talk) 23:45, September 26, 2014 (UTC)

Cheers!

Thanks for touching up Class Mod (Borderlands 2)

TrigrH (talk) 00:00, October 4, 2014 (UTC)

It needed to be done. -- WarBlade (talk) 00:10, October 4, 2014 (UTC)

Removed quote on Gaige page

Hi,

I noticed you removed a quote from Gaige which I added. You gave the reason that this is covered on the Echo page, but the fact is that it is actually not the same quote. The text is different and can only be heard by being idle. It is very similar to the Echo recording I agree, but it's not the same. So it should be listed.
--AeonsLegend (contact me) 19:02, October 8, 2014 (UTC)

Actually, the quote sections are a frequent problem, and something that we've discussed here but never resolved. Quite a few of us want to scale the quotations way back, although we've never reached a clear consensus on how to best tackle the problem. For the moment we've got most of the quotes down to single-sentence lines, so Gaige's monologue not in keeping with the need to constrain the quote content. -- WarBlade (talk) 19:09, October 8, 2014 (UTC)
I understand, but it's kind of silly to have a quotes section, but not allow all quotes to be listed or try to tone them down. You either list them all, because wiki's are supposed to be complete, or not at all. If you really want to get rid of the quotes you could replace them with a video that has them all. It's not the same though, especially if you're looking up what is actually being said. For instance the phrase "Klaatu Barada Nikto" can come across as complete gibberish which would prompt people to look it up. If you don't have it written out people will still not know how to get more information on it. For me a wiki can never have too much information. If it's page cluttering you're worried about there's a multitude of options to format the page so it's more readable like having expanding tables. Just throwing some ideas around. :) --AeonsLegend (contact me) 19:20, October 8, 2014 (UTC)
Agreed. The problem of format and bloating is separate from the information. At this point I believe that Warblade can reinvent the format (without a community vote) for the purpose of administrative page structure. Final signature 01:14, October 11, 2014 (UTC)
Not really. I'd want community input for something like this. The problem has been noted as a problem by a number of people, and that's about the only clear consensus on the subject. There hasn't been any strong support of a solution, of which the the ideas ventured so far have been:
  • Scrap the quotes and just have a single character-defining quote.
  • Scale the quotes back to a few pertinent ones (someone tried without discussion and others just piled the removed quotes back in).
  • Move quotes to a subpage.
  • A few others like using big lists of sound files, or even less practical ideas.
Maybe the Pre-Sequel is the point where we need to go over it properly, thanks to these targeted character dialogues... -- WarBlade (talk) 01:50, October 11, 2014 (UTC)
I meant because it has been brought up multiple times but never really resolved makes it more of an administrative page format thing. Meaning that if an administrator feels that the page suffers and a subpage is needed, then the known problem can become an administrative answer. Although your preference for input is noted. Quotes on (Playable) Character Pages

I was browsing the pages for each playable character in BL2 and was thinking - would it be a good idea to move the quotes for each playable class to a subpage instead of lumping them into the pain page? Take Krieg's page for instance: his quotes take up a good ~70% of the height of the page - not the best for someone looking for gameplay or basic backstory IMO.

Unrelated to the above: I've been doing transcripts of stuff lately; my stuff's on new pages so just search for those. Are there things that I should be avoiding transcripting, or is everything fair game? And for shorter missions, is it better to put the transcript on the main mission page or to make a subpage anyway? HybridDragoness (talk) 08:01, October 13, 2014 (UTC)

Regarding moving quotes to sub pages, you'll notice this same subject arose on the next topic up my Talk page. Yes, it would be a good idea, but at the same time it's also part of a much larger issue. If you want to advocate moving the quotes to a sub page, I suggest creating a blog for it so we can gauge community opinion.
Regarding mission transcripts, I'm a bit reluctant to see any single-sentence mission briefings being the reason for a new sub page. It looks as though we're of a like mind on that. I think for the moment use your judgement on whether a sub page is necessary (eg. multi-character dialogues) and make them only if they are. With a whole new game coming out this week it's probably a good time to revisit the wiki-wide policy (or lack thereof) on this subject soon. -- WarBlade (talk) 08:48, October 13, 2014 (UTC)
Got it, I've made a blog post hereHybridDragoness (talk) 08:36, October 14, 2014 (UTC)
Huh, for some reason it's not showing up on the Blog Posts page so no-one knows I've made the post. EDIT: Sorry for all the spam in your notifications, but I've fixed it so people can actually comment on it. If you feel it's necessary, can you advertise it on your main page or something like that? HybridDragoness (talk) 22:02, October 14, 2014 (UTC)
Sorry for the spam (AGAIN) but since no-one replied except for people I specifically bugged to reply in the wiki chat, is it okay if I create a draft on policy/criteria on quotes and transcripts and run it by you and a few other admins? HybridDragoness (talk) 14:15, October 16, 2014 (UTC)

Lasers

Why did you delete the Cat O' Nine Tails page?

R goff98 (talk) 21:15, October 15, 2014 (UTC)r_goff98

Because it's a laser weapon, and I have specifically requested that people refrain from making laser weapon articles until we get the infobox template ready for them. Please direct energy instead into: enemies, NPCs, locations, skills, and missions. Thanks. -- WarBlade (talk) 21:18, October 15, 2014 (UTC)
Well when the template comes out I will transfer the information. R goff98 (talk) 21:50, October 15, 2014 (UTC)r_goff98
How do you add images to the infobox2 weapon template? R goff98 (talk) 21:53, October 15, 2014 (UTC)
Okay I'll put my efforts elsewhere, but I'm going to remake the Cat O' Nine Tails page just to have it ready for others. I will not use any template until the laser one is made. I will just have a picture of it. R goff98 (talk) 02:46, October 17, 2014 (UTC) R_goff98
No, please don't recreate that yet again. -- WarBlade (talk) 02:49, October 17, 2014 (UTC)

Forum Posting

The only reason I'm responding here to your posting on my forum article http://borderlands.wikia.com/wiki/Forum:Wow,_it_seems_no_one_is_playing_Borderlands_the_Pre-Sequel...?t=20141017023923 is because I don't want that posting to effect my standing with Wikia. You closed it because of "trolling". Well if you look at my contributions to other Wikia sites like Dragon Age, Skyrim, ES4 Oblivion and Destiny(I think I've corrected some mistakes on this site too) then you'll see I don't "TROLL". I was just bringing that up for discussion, not trying to "start" anything. My last game was Destiny which Wikia had ALOT of info for, even on the day of release. So I guess that's what I was comparing it to.

You're a moderator and I respect that and thank you for the contributions you've made for any games...and understand the response. But once again, the only reason I'm responding at all is because I don't want that post to effect my Wikia reputation at all. Thanks. Djdelirius (talk) 03:17, October 17, 2014 (UTC)

Skill icons

Is someone working on icons for the skill trees? eg: http://borderlands.wikia.com/wiki/Athena/Skill_tree ect

If not what is the best way to get the icon images from my computer onto the page?

Thanks

TrigrH (talk) 04:04, October 17, 2014 (UTC)

Not yet. We have higher priorities at the moment. -- WarBlade (talk) 22:01, October 17, 2014 (UTC)

Re: Oz Kits

I have to agree, actually. It does take up the slot where relics were, and it doesn't seem like any info would need to be added to that Infobox. My bad, you're absolutely right! InfinitysCross (talk) 04:05, October 17, 2014 (UTC)

Your assumptions seem to be correct on both fronts, yes. All I've got so far are:

Hyperventilator Oz Kit (Explosive)

Acidic Duality Oz Kit (Corrosive)

Support Relay (Explosive)

Now its just a matter of finding out what each prefix means. Some are obvious, like Acidic or Meteoric, but not so sure about Duality. My Duality has two effects, one for being in a vacuum and one for being in an atmosphere. I'd assume that's what makes it special? Can't currently confirm as that's the only one I have. InfinitysCross (talk) 18:01, October 17, 2014 (UTC)

i have found a few, all of them had an effect for in atmosphere and in vacuum, that seemed to be for boosting weapons, mostly.
also, i dont know how to edit pages well, so i just wanted to let someone who knew how that a giant ice shuggarath in the cave for the mission to get ice for nina dropped a zim for me, if i didnt have it for 360 id upload a pic to prove it, but i checked the item page and it had no drop info, so i wanted to announce a viable source. please feel free to conferm or test. Cold- Hearted Anarchist (talk) 20:45, October 17, 2014 (UTC)

Just a few questions about editing.

Has there been a template made for Oz Kits and Laser Weapons yet? R goff98 (talk) 21:18, October 17, 2014 (UTC)r_goff98

Also, where do people get the captions under the pictures for the weapons? R goff98 (talk) 21:30, October 17, 2014 (UTC)r_goff98

I added an image to the Cryophobia page and the 3DD1.E page but they need a clean up. I don't know how to so could you clean it up please? R goff98 (talk) 21:46, October 17, 2014 (UTC)r_goff98

Oz Kits can use Template:Infobox weapon2. I might still have to tweak the manufacturer fields a bit - Scav works on its own, but multi-manufacturer items including scav weapons hasn't been added. Laser weapons, I'm hoping to get feedback on today. They will use Template:Infobox weapon2 as well, which might need some further tweaking. -- WarBlade (talk) 22:01, October 17, 2014 (UTC)
When you receive feedback on the laser weapons could you let me know? I would like to create the Cat O' Nine Tails page asap. R goff98 (talk)
The template is being updated today.
Feel free to proceed with updating laser articles.
-- WarBlade (talk) 21:39, October 18, 2014 (UTC)
When I go to publish the cat o' nine tails page it says I need the "'protect right". Can you help me? R goff98 (talk) 00:02, October 19, 2014 (UTC)

Cryo Element

I got a screenshot of a wep with cryo, used a color picker to grab the color, and it turns out the hex code is #0CB9CD. I know you have access to the .js and .html pages. This should be the color that cryo is, maybe it's worth the addition so we can get the element color finally?

Sidenote, what do I tell newbies about Laser weapons? Are we not allowing the creation of them yet? Don't want to tell them no because I said so.

MadCrayolaz ® 04:32, October 18, 2014 (UTC)

Yeah, still hold fire. I've been working, but have two days off now, so there should be a chance to look at it now. -- WarBlade (talk) 09:00, October 18, 2014 (UTC)
Regarding elements Cryo and Shock, the colour you propose might need a tweak (both elements) seeing as there is very little separation between those two, but it's in a functional placeholder state at the moment. -- WarBlade (talk) 09:20, October 18, 2014 (UTC)
The official in game text uses the following color codes: cryo: #01D1FF, shock: #0165FF, corrosive: #01FF01, explosive: #F1D201, incendiary: #FF8001. I'd have to reinstall BL2 to get the exact slag color, but #9E01FF seems the most likely. If there is concern about confusing the element colors, there is the option of using icons like so:
Cryo sm
Cryo -- Zuriki (talk) 03:19, October 21, 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, but there was an intentional move away from the in-game colours a while back. One of the reasons was we're also making them work, both together and on a black background. Notice how the yellow and green pops out, but the blue is not far off getting lost in the black? Well anyway, I know that I went too far in the grey direction for cryo, so that's another thing to patch up soon. -- WarBlade (talk) 03:27, October 21, 2014 (UTC)

unique legendary?

Support Relay - If its obtain from a mission but its orange does that make it a unique?

TrigrH (talk) 00:18, October 19, 2014 (UTC)

Flame of the Firehawk... *shrug* So there's two of them now? -- WarBlade (talk) 00:23, October 19, 2014 (UTC)
Pretty sure they are mutually exclusive...you'd think that legendaries are farmable, while that clearly isn't. But are we just going by color of text? If so, then they are not mutually exclusive. Your call. MadCrayolaz ® 06:41, October 19, 2014 (UTC)

Oops.

Sorry about the edit to the 3DD1.E page.  >.<  I'd posted that before I read all the policies.  I was going to go back and remove it once I found out I made a mistake, but you beat me to it.  Sorry about that!  Seriously though, 3DD1.E is totally a reference to ED-E, and we all know it but can't prove it yet.  But yeah, I'll be a lot more careful with my edits now.  I already had a short talk with InfinitysCross, and I decided that I'll leave the info-gathering to other people.  I'll just stick to spellchecking.  I do that better anyways.  GadgetSteelmare (talk) 22:55, October 19, 2014 (UTC)

Or not. I dunno. Outkast is great.

Hey War, have you finished The Pre-Sequel yet? I wanted to ask for your opinion on a story related matter. InfinitysCross (talk) 07:03, October 20, 2014 (UTC)

Not even close. Something about being a day and a half behind the American release, and then dealing with a number of requests on this wiki (and several matters on other wikis), along with the needed template and navigation updates here... I feel like I finally have time to sit down and enjoy the game a little bit now. That being said, I have a busy time over the next four days followed by being out of town for the following three. I think I'll finish the main story in a week or two at this rate. :) -- WarBlade (talk) 08:00, October 20, 2014 (UTC)
I see! We can wait then. I'm sure I'll ask others what they think in a more private environment (Chat or other platforms like Steam) to see what they think, and bring it around to you when you're ready. Have a safe trip! InfinitysCross (talk) 18:46, October 20, 2014 (UTC)

Re: Freezing Fridgia: Candidate for Deletio

From a somewhat outsider perspective, there was nothing much visiually wrong with the page, and after leaving that message, I edited the templates somewhat to tidy it up a bit. Leaving a message as vague as "I couldn't begin to go into what's wrong with this," contributes nothing to the conversation and, what's more, makes it impossible for someone with as little experience as I have to fix whatever issues were left by the individual who created the page.

There was absolutely no reason to delete the thing, as any changes that needed to be made could be made just fine on the existing one. My concern was that the weapon would be pageless for even longer, as has been the case with many of the uniques thus far. I realize that it hasn't been all that long since launch, but I would like to see more information available to the community as quickly as possible, and it seems that people feel more motivated to contribute if the page is already there, which is precisely why I have been making pages for weapons at all, where with previous games I just sat back and waited for other people to do the work: I don't want to wait.

If he thought the page was that bad, he should have fixed it, since he in his all knowingness was aware of every single glaring issue that slighted his tender eyes. I, myself, have just been copying the layout of other weapon pages to establish a baseline for people more knowledgable than I to layout specific weapon details, so I may well have done things incorrectly too. For example, in the infobox weapon2 template I saw used on other pages, the variant link was always set to "ON," so I followed suit. Was it immediately apparent to me that this was incorrect form? Not quite. But considering how long it took for me to set that boolean, I know for a fact that it would be no investment whatsoever for someone who knew that was incorrect to fix it. All the issues that you listed, in fact, would take no time to fix, as I, with no experience at all, was able to setup a weapon page, with links to mission, location, and a nice screenshot in less than 20 minutes, just working backward from the layout of other pages. Considering all this, I find the comment he left to be immature at best, though I see that he did finally go back and fix the page layout, so props to him, I suppose? -- Benzillah (talk) 19:20, October 20, 2014 (UTC)

I'm gonna leave my mark on this situation; the original delete tag, added by Lavisdragoon was left because I told him to after he showed me the page when it was published. At the time, I was busy (too busy to start editing it) so I told him to slap on the delete tag for now, and we could either:

A) Recreate it from scratch but appropriately

B) Start editing it to make it fit.

So from a beginning perspective, I caused this. Now its fixed, which is nice, so if the tag hasn't been removed, it should be. That's my two cents on the matter. InfinitysCross (talk) 21:44, October 20, 2014 (UTC)

Further to that, and to answer the post above, the page was never deleted - it was proposed for deletion. That's a big difference. More appropriately it perhaps should have been branded with the {{cleanup}} template (or just cleaned), but either way it was cleaned up soon after.
Should weapons be pageless? A red link informs editors of a page needing to be created, but if that page once created offers little to someone searching for information then it's worse than a red link.
Regarding fixing it, there is a huge influx of new contributors here at the moment, and most of the new contributions are presenting messes to resolve. Those of us who have a better handle on WikiText markup simply don't have the time to repair every problem. We'll fix a few and hope that the examples those repairs offer will act as a guide for newcomers to improve. -- WarBlade (talk) 22:34, October 20, 2014 (UTC)
Perhaps I do not have enough perspective of scope on the matter, but I rather think all acquirable items should have pages, regardless of the complete-ness of the pages themelves, in order to create a convenient, organised reference for all known acquirable items, given the recent-launch status of the game. There is all the time in the world to make the pages look pretty, as the release cycle for Borderlands games dictates fair time gaps between new content being added. On top of this, from my (admittedly limited) perspective, I have seen individuals flock to adding to pages once they are created, while the pages themselves took days to even be created to begin with. This implies that having a "poorly constructed" page is, in fact, better than having no page at all, because it means that page will soon be full of delicious content, and cleaned up as it comes along. Not everyone knows precisely what effect each unique barrel has on the playstyle of a weapon, or what the flavor text for a specific legendary shield is a reference to, but collectively, that information seems to pool to the surface once the groundwork has been lain.
And I agree, it would have been more appropriate to mark the page for cleanup. It would have told me, as someone who is unfamiliar with Wiki editing procedures, that something needs to be changed from a formatting perspective. Also, I never said the page was deleted, but as someone unfamiliar with Wiki editing procedures, it appeared that the page was to be removed, which is why I went ahead and made a post about it. Like I said, however, the individual who left it went ahead and cleaned it up himself, so regardless of who said to tag it, it's taken care of. -- Benzillah (talk) 00:45, October 21, 2014 (UTC)

Scav vs. Bandit

Not to seem like a fangirl for "spamming" your talk page profusely over the last two days (Read: I love you), but wouldn't it make more sense to make the Scav page just a subsection of the Bandit page? They use the same materials and stats, the only real difference is in name. InfinitysCross (talk) 03:50, October 21, 2014 (UTC)

The reason to keep them separate is mostly from the lore angle, but also to avoid confusion. Plus we have some long lists of items getting longer now, and it's been dawning on me today that our navigation templates are going need a major re-think. Keeping those two pseudo brands separate will help a little bit with that. -- WarBlade (talk) 10:59, October 21, 2014 (UTC)
I don't want to step out of line here, but is there any chance we can talk on a chat client instead of talk page? Steam, Skype, IRC? If you're okay with it. InfinitysCross (talk) 05:28, October 22, 2014 (UTC)

Edit summaries

As a longstanding Wikipedia contributor, I've been very concerned about your tendency to not provide meaningful edit summaries. While I can understand some of the edits you make, I find that you often remove material or revert edits without providing a reason. This is disconcerting to me as it leaves me unable to understand why some of my edits should be reverted or removed. Is there a specific reason for this? FieryDragonLord 19:04, October 22, 2014 (UTC)

I usually do provide edit summaries. Sometimes I miss them. Was there something specific that you were wanting clarification on? -- WarBlade (talk) 19:52, October 22, 2014 (UTC)
Not to get into a dispute with a sysop, but your contribution history indicates that the terse edit summaries you provide are not very helpful, generally failing to provide any meaningful information about why each edit was made. Your "cleanup" edits often remove content or revert edits without a helpful explanation for other editors. FieryDragonLord 20:12, October 22, 2014 (UTC)
An example is this diff. While I understand why you separated the text into two paragraphs, the edit removed most of the {{Element}} templates I had added. It would be best if you explained in more detail why this was a good idea. FieryDragonLord 20:25, October 22, 2014 (UTC)
The edit summary is a small field capable of holding a sentence, sometimes two. It simply can't hold a paragraph, which it what is needed for some of the problems I encounter on this wiki.
As for your specific example, you were slipping away from documenting a subject by comparing it to other subjects (plus some common nouns were capitalised, and you noted the paragraphing issue already). An article should ideally be an authoritative text on that subject, not reliant on links to other subjects that keep saying "Subject A is like Subject B, but does more damage, and it's also a bit like Subject C." There have been weapon articles here with as much as two-thirds comparison, and one-third actual substance about the article subject itself. Honestly, links are good, but please try to keep the spotlight focused on the subject that the article covers. -- WarBlade (talk) 20:55, October 22, 2014 (UTC)
I don't recall editing the text of the article, only the formatting and grammar. You might want to look at the history of the Cryo page. FieryDragonLord 20:59, October 22, 2014 (UTC)
